About Let's Do It Cyprus!

“Let’s Do It World!” is the biggest volunteering project in the world that was initiated in 2008. Since then, it has been organized in 91 countries with 22128 points of garbage dumps mapped on world trash map and in 2012 a series of clean up will continue throughout the world, from 24th of March until 25th of September, engaging and bringing together millions of volunteers from over 100 countries who will be cleaning up their countries. Cyprus will be participating this year for the first time in this campaign and “Let’s Do It Cyprus!” will involve cleaning up waste from the island’s countryside in a single day with the help of volunteers. The event will take place on 29/09/2012 and the main objectives of this project include: • to create the first digital registry and national map with the locations of as many illegal dumpsites as possible in Cyprus • to involve 10,000 volunteers to participate in the realization of The National Cleanup Day, in order to clean up important ecosystems such as beaches, forest areas, mountain areas, rivers, lakes and any other polluted natural areas in Cyprus, and to remove as much illegally dumped waste from the environment as possible through this voluntary work • to raise awareness, educate and improve attitudes of Cypriot citizens towards waste, recycling and environmental protection • to create a basis for fulfilling a long term goal: changing the habits of citizens and supporting a sustainable society in Cyprus
